By accessing or using ImpostorKit at impostorkit.com (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

ImpostorKit is a free, browser-based party word game platform. The Service allows users to:

  • Generate random word pairs across multiple topics and difficulty levels for the imposter/spy word game.
  • Use Deal Mode to privately distribute words to players in a face-to-face setting.
  • Create and join online game rooms where players are assigned roles (civilian or imposter) and receive their secret words in real time.
  • Share word assignments via direct message templates, per-player links, and QR codes.

3. No Account Required

The Service does not require account registration, login, or any form of personal identification. When joining an online game room, you only need to provide a display name and the room code. You are free to use any alias or nickname.

4. User Conduct

While using the Service, you agree to:

  • Use the Service only for its intended purpose — playing imposter word games with friends, family, or groups.
  • Choose display names that are appropriate and non-offensive.
  • Not attempt to exploit, disrupt, or interfere with game sessions belonging to other players.
  • Not use automated scripts, bots, or other tools to manipulate the Service.
  • Not attempt to extract, scrape, or copy our word database for commercial use.

5. Game Data & Temporary Storage

Game rooms, player data, and session history are temporary and automatically deleted within 24 hours. We do not provide a way to recover or export data from expired game sessions. You should not rely on the Service for long-term data storage.

Word pairs and topics provided by the Service are curated for entertainment purposes. The content does not represent advice, endorsement, or opinion on any subject matter.

6. Intellectual Property

All content on ImpostorKit — including the word database, website design, graphics, logos, and code — is the property of ImpostorKit or its content suppliers and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service for personal, non-commercial gameplay. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, or create derivative works from any part of the Service without prior written permission.

"Imposter Game," "Spy Game," and similar references are common game genre terms. All other trademarks belong to their respective owners.

7. Service Availability

We strive to keep ImpostorKit available 24/7, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to:

  • Planned or unplanned maintenance.
  • Server or infrastructure issues.
  • Updates and feature improvements.

We are not liable for any loss or inconvenience caused by temporary unavailability of the Service, including game sessions that are interrupted or lost.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that:

  • The Service will be error-free or uninterrupted.
  • Game results or role assignments will be perfectly random.
  • The word pairs will be suitable for all audiences in all contexts (though we do curate for general appropriateness).

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ImpostorKit and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your use of, or inability to use, the Service. Since the Service is provided free of charge and for entertainment purposes, our total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the Service shall not exceed $0.

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.

11. Termination
